About Dr. Bryon McQuirt

Dr. Byron McQuirt is a board-certified physician specializing in both adult and forensic psychiatry. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Sciences from The University of Toledo with honors in psychology. After graduating from medical school, Dr. McQuirt completed his internship and residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans.

During his time in New Orleans, Dr. McQuirt gained recognition as an outstanding resident in addiction psychiatry. At this time, he also received specialized training in the assessment and treatment of the psychological effects of trauma through the Victims of Violence Program at Louisiana State University.

After his education in New Orleans, Dr. McQuirt completed a year of specialized training in Forensic Psychiatry at Emory University. He then served as an inpatient Forensic Psychiatrist at Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta. At the hospital, Dr. McQuirt’s responsibilities included evaluating, diagnosing, and treating pre-trial detainees with mental illness.

Through his work with mentally ill defendants, Dr. McQuirt gained experience as an expert witness, who would also testify in both civil and criminal cases.

Dr. McQuirt is also an avid teacher. He has lectured on various topics in both adult and forensic psychiatry, including psychopharmacology, civil commitment, violence risk, and psychiatric malpractice. He is currently serving as adjunct faculty at Morehouse School of Medicine and Augusta University.

As a practitioner, Dr. McQuirt enjoys collaborating with clients to optimize their goals. An avid believer in evidence-based practices, he encourages clients to include non-pharmacological options in their treatment plans.
